Bearded reedling are agile and hyperactive birds that live in the reedbed all year long. When they are on the move, looking for food, they never stay put for more than a few seconds, and with the reeds swaying in the wind, it's a challenge to take a picture before they are gone. My favourite pose of theirs is what I called "the split": each leg grabbing a different blade of reed, they pilfer the seeds that are within reach, and then they move on. The keen photographer has to be quick!
