This image was taken during a 4 hour boat tour in South Florida. This wonderful raptor is a rare species in Florida and it is such a thrill to photograph them as they hunt over the marsh looking for apple snails. We move the boat into an area of tall reeds to hide our presence and wait for the snail kites to start hunting in the area we are moored. Some trips have been complete failures but this day was magical. The sunrise light was perfect, the wind calm and the snail kites cooperative.

I have been a bird photographer for 12 years . I became "hooked" on birds during a trip to Tanzania. I saw a lilac breasted roller and I fell in love. Upon my return to Canada, I googled bird photography and fell into the wonderful world of my feathered friends.
