  • A fotó története

A Black stilt wades in flooded fields on the edge of Mount Cook National Park. Those stunning birds are threatened by introduced mammalian predators and habitat destruction, and still heavily rely on conservation efforts for their survival. Only about 150 adult birds now live free on braided rivers of the highlands. Like most birds there, they are not afraid of humans, so it's possible to photograph them without disturbance: one only needs to settle down and wait for the birds to come closer.
