All day I watched as a couple of grebes completed a practically finished nest with algae in a pond near my house. I came to the nesting site again in the evening, when the sun was already setting producing golden-copper glare on the surface of the water. It took some time before I found two silhouettes in the distance. The grebes were dancing. Facing each other, they shook their heads down, up, to the sides, then fluffing, then folding the feathers on their heads and necks.
