• Story of the image

  Photographing on the arctic island of Hornoya is always a great experience. Towards the end of March, thousands of birds return to the island for the breeding season. Atlantic Puffins are one of the species, and being able to get close to them, as they prepare to land, is fantastic. I engaged a slow shutter speed in order to blur the sea, and to show the movement of the wings. Puffins can flap their wings upto 400 beats per minute, so making a sharp image to capture this is challenging!

  I live in the UK, but I am an avid explorer and get out in my campervan along roads less travelled, aiming to photograph the wildlife I encounter amidst some of Nature's most environmentally significant and diverse places. From photographing Puffins on a remote, snowy island hundreds of miles above the arctic circle, to photographing Dalmatian Pelicans in one of Europe's premier wetlands, I aim to capture unique and captivating images that inform and inspire.
