  In the winter of 2022-23, shooting in St. Petersburg, Russia was difficult. For weeks I didn't come across any birds or animals that would make good photographs, but I really wanted to shoot. Huge flocks of waterfowl - mostly mallards - gather in suburban parks on unfrozen stretches of water and and I came up with the idea of taking some pattern photos when the birds fill the frame 100%. Once again, cloudy weather in St. Petersburg prompted me to choose a slow shutter speed.
