A space bird

A space bird

  • Where was the image taken?
White Lake, Gatchina area, Leningrad district, Russia
  • Story of the image

The drake smew is a waterfowl listed in the red book in several regions. Its striking appearance, with beautiful colouring and shape, has a cosmic quality. When taking off from water, it resembles a wonder-bird soaring through space. What’s fascinating is the sudden, powerful movement it makes during takeoff, creating a splash as large as the bird itself. I was fortunate enough to capture this rare and fleeting moment, showcasing the bird’s grace and energy in a single, fast motion.

I am a dedicated photo artist, known in photographic circles as Ritam. I have a deep focus on nature photography, especially birds. My work has earned prizes and recognition in international contests. As a poet, I compose poems inspired by my images, blending photography and poetry into a harmonious synthesis. My photo-poetic exhibitions have been showcased in Russia, India, and beyond. My main aim and inspiration is to share in the living communion with the sublime, all-embracing soul of the universe, with the beauty of the world as Her grand, miraculous expression, and our own soul of beauty and harmony as Her living particle.
