In the ice

In the ice

  • Where was the image taken?
    Rausu, Japan
  • Story of the image

On a converted fishing boat that now takes photographers out to see the steller sea eagles attracted by fish thrown off the back of boats; the contrast in the ice and the eagle struck me. I wanted to capture a photo that showed the size and the power of the eagle as they stride on the ice pack

    Emma Parker

Emma Parker relocated to Australia in 2003 and since that time has been enchanted with the raw nature that makes up the landscape.

With a master’s in public policy from Sydney University with a focus on Environmental Policy, she became drawn to creating images of nature and their environment to attract attention, increase knowledge and the same love she holds for them.

Having travelled extensively before picking up a camera in 2019, she now seeks to document the details of fragile ecosystems.  With a particular attraction to the two extremes – hot, muddy, mosquito driven places and then extreme polar temperatures in Hokkaido and the Arctic – using these climates to create images that show the harshest places are full of life.

Each image is an attempt to capture a moment that is fleeting, showing an animal behaviour that passes in the blink of a eye.  This requires intense focus and patience, and in some cases a lot of mosquito repellent!
