  Up at 4am in the dense jungle near Calakmul, I set out to catch the first light when birdlife is most active and the heat of the day is yet to kick in. As dawn broke through the canopy, I was rewarded with this striking encounter. The first thing i noticed was the iridescent plumage shimmering through the trees before I realised it was an Ocellated Turkey. I'd heard about these birds but never thought I would stumble across one!
