Clown of the arctic

Clown of the arctic

  • Where was the image taken?
    Hornoya, Norway
  • Story of the image

I travelled to the Norwegian island of Hornoya especially to photograph Puffins in the snow. In March, these enigmatic birds return to their breeding grounds on this arctic island, when snow is usually still lying on the ground. Standing amongst all the activity it was sometimes difficult to know where to look, but my attention was drawn to this particular bird, looking stunning in the afternoon sun.

I live in the UK, but I am an avid explorer and get out in my campervan along roads less travelled, aiming to photograph the wildlife I encounter amidst some of Nature's most environmentally significant and diverse places. From photographing Puffins on a remote, snowy island hundreds of miles above the arctic circle, to photographing Dalmatian Pelicans in one of Europe's premier wetlands, I aim to capture unique and captivating images that inform and inspire.
