Just before nightfall in Punta Sur’s protected lagoon,
I captured the silhouette of a magnificent frigatebird perched on a mangrove islet, where dozens of birds gather each evening to roost. With special access after hours, guided by a bird biologist and local captain, I photographed this profile as the bird struck a pose that — to my eye — looked like it was taking a selfie with a stick. Sometimes, nature surprises you with a wink.
