  The photo was taken in February on a particularly cold and gloomy afternoon. I had been out more than 2 hours, actively searching for birds despite the biting wind and quiet surroundings. I chose to photograph this particular bird because its presence brought an unexpected sense of life and resilience to an otherwise bleak winter day. I was drawn to the way it carried itself — alert and unfazed by the harsh weather.
